Obituary

Whitney K. Brookes, Jr., 95, of Haddam, beloved husband of the late Merle (Parmelee) Brookes, died Wednesday, September 27th, 2023, at his home.

He was born in Middletown, son of the late Whitney Sr. and Sybil (May) Brookes. Whit is survived by his daughters, Sandra Brookes of Texas, Leslie Nosal and her husband Joe of Haddam; son-in-law Daniel Labbe of Haddam; sisters, Mary Alice Matulevich and husband Ronni of Haddam, Dorothy Brookes Anderson of Arizona; seven grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Merle, daughter Christine Labbe, sister Joan Marica, and brothers, Thomas and William.

Whit was a US Army veteran who served in the Korean War. He participated in the Memorial Day Parade in Higganum every year, proudly wearing his original uniform. Whit was a man who always kept busy. He was a member of the horseshoe league, bowling league and a lifetime member of the Haddam Volunteer Fire Dept. He loved spending time outdoors working in his yard, hiking, hunting, and collecting deer antlers. His collection included hundreds of antlers and Whit loved giving tours of his collection including details of where he found each antler.

He had a great sense of humor and loved to joke with family and friends. His laugh, smile and the twinkle in his eyes will live on in our hearts.

A private burial service will be held at Haddam Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Haddam Volunteer Fire Company, P.O. Box 194, Higganum, CT 06441. To share memories or express condolences online, please visit www.biegafuneralhome.com.
