Obituary

Wayne E. Smith, 91, of Meriden, CT, peacefully passed away on March 3, 2025, at Middlesex Hospital, with his family by his side. Born on October 13, 1933, to Ella and Raymond Smith, Wayne was a graduate of Meriden High School and Wilcox Tech, where he honed his skills as a tool and die maker. He proudly served in the Army and later in the reserves.
Wayne was an avid sports fan and a natural athlete, enjoying all forms of sports. He also possessed a creative skill, often finding ways to turn discarded items into something useful. For more than 70 years, Wayne was a dedicated member of First Congregational Church in Meriden, where he served as a deacon and contributed to several boards.
He was a loving and devoted husband to Emily Gilman Smith of New Britain for 60 years. Together, they made cherished memories with their family at their summer cottage in Charlestown, RI. Wayne was a man of faith, known for his quiet strength, quick sense of humor, and unwavering commitment to putting others before himself. He was a true gentleman who believed in the power of family and dedicated his life to creating a loving, supportive home.
Wayne is survived by his daughters, Sharon Ticino and her husband Carmelo of Higganum, and Tricia Tarentino, predeceased by her husband Ronald Jr. of Leicester, MA. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren: Alyssa Ticino (Brandon Wittneben), Jessi Turato (Vee), Brandon Ticino (Taylor), Christian Ticino (Mackenzie), Ronald Tarentino III, Spenser Tarentino (Kelsey Macmillan), and Kyle Tarentino. He was overjoyed to become a great-grandfather in the past six months with the births of Ella and Theo Ticino.
He is further survived by his sister-in-law, Carol Smith (predeceased by his beloved brother Bob), as well as Charlotte and Ronald Garen, and many cherished nieces and nephews. Wayne's gentle spirit, humor, and steady presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
