Walter
Szpakowski, II
Jul 17, 1969 — Aug 7, 2026
Middletown
Walter Szpakowski, II, 57, passed away at home on August 7, 2026, surrounded by his family after a valiant fight. Born July 17, 1969, in Middletown, Connecticut, he was the son of the late Walter "Wally" Szpakowski and Dolores (Sajek) Szpakowski.
Walter was a devoted father to his daughters, Samantha and Caili. He is also survived by his mother; his sister, Lisa; his brother-in-law, Paul Baars; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.
Greatly involved in the Polish Falcons, Nest 519 in Middletown, Walter served as a board officer and earned the Gold Legion of Honor. He was also active with the Breakfast Club and served as a physical instructor for youth activities with the Polish Falcons and other nests nationwide. He enjoyed fishing and taking cruises with his daughters and family, was known for readily helping others, and loved cooking-often sharing that passion, including teaching a pierogi class with fellow Falcon members.
Walter served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS John F. Kennedy aircraft carrier, traveling to many countries and having adventures along the way. After his military service, he earned an associate degree from Gateway Community College. He worked at Yale University for 26 years as a Client Technologies Administrator, a role he enjoyed.
He was predeceased by his father, his grandparents, and many family members and friends, and will be greatly missed.
The family extends special thanks to his hematologist, Dr. Bewersdorf; Dr. Kong; and the team of doctors and nurses at Smilow, Yale New Haven Hospital for their exceptional care and support. They also thank the hospice team at VITAS, as well as Visiting Angels caregivers Jackie and Tina, for their kindness and assistance.
