Thomas J Sugrue passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 15, 2026 in Middletown, CT surrounded by his family.

A lifelong Connecticut resident, Tom was born in New Haven on August 30, 1944 to the late Mr. Edward and Mary (Creighton) Sugrue. He is survived by his older siblings Betty O’Neil and Ed Sugrue. Tom was so fortunate to be joined at birth with his identical twin, Bill Sugrue. Tom’s younger sister is Mary Ginsberg. He was a wonderful brother. Tom also was the best of uncles to his numerous nieces and nephews. .

Tom settled in the Middletown area where he and his wife of over 45 years, Dana Bonadies, lived for more than 35 years. He spent his career working at Connecticut Valley Hospital Children’s Unit, Long Lane School, Wethersfield High School and Wilbur Cross High School designing programs to help both at-risk youth and high school students’ social and emotional development. He influenced countless lives throughout his lifetime and was valued and admired by colleagues.

Tom was a wonderful father and grandfather. He was so gentle with them as babies, caring and playing with them as toddlers, taking them on adventures and loving them as children and adults. They are Jill Sugrue Ryan, Matthew Sugrue, and Will Sugrue. His grandchildren are Lily, Drew, and Elizabeth Ryan; Eva and Thomas Sugrue. He leaves them, Dana, and his family to remember him with wonderful memories. Tom was also predeceased by his beloved mother-in-law, Angela Bonadies and his youngest brother Jim Sugrue. He will be greatly missed and forever cherished.

For 12 years, Tom fought Parkinson’s and won by traveling abroad, living part-time in Nova Scotia, spending time with family and friends, continuing to exercise, doing projects and attacking everything life had to offer with joy and determination. He was kind and loving, brave and courageous, and a force of nature.

Calling hours are at Biega Funeral Home on 3 Silver Street, Middletown, CT on August 29, Saturday, 11:00 a.m to 1:00 p.m. with a short service at 12:30 pm. in Lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Michael J Fox Foundation.
