Suzy Madeline (Varrato) Hawley, 76, of Middlefield, CT passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday, July 16, 2023. She was born in La Reid, Belgium on February 21, 1947 to the late Jerome and Denise (Flohimont) Varrato.

Suzy met the love of her life and soulmate, Leonard Pinz, 36 years ago. Together they shared a house full of love and laughter where family always came together. They had a timeless, once in a lifetime love. Suzy devoted her time to caring for and loving her children and grandchildren, who were the joy of her life. She was passionate about cooking and baking. She was especially known for her beautiful cookie trays at Christmas time she would give out to family and friends. She also loved animals and never hesitated to give her home to stray animals.

She is survived by her four loving children and their spouses, Edward and Kimberly Held of Southington, Kathy and Eric Winzer, of Middletown, Tim and Angela Held, of Middletown, and Shane and Pamela Held, of Wallingford. Suzy also leaves behind her eight beloved grandchildren, EJ, Brandon, and Taylor Winzer and Rachel, Lauren, Michael, Alissa, and Trevor Held. Suzy is survived by her sisters Marie Louise Gugliemino, of Cromwell, Rose Marie Lundell, of Middletown, and her brothers Jerome Varrato Jr., of St. Albans, VT, Rene Varrato, of Middletown, and their spouses as well as many nieces and nephews whom she loved. She was predeceased by her nephew, Jason Varrato; and great-nephew, Jayson Johnson.

Suzy will be greatly missed by her family and all those who knew and loved her.

Calling hours will be on Thursday, July 20, 2023, at Biega Funeral Home, 3 Silver S., Middletown from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. A funeral home service will follow at 11:30 a.m. Burial services will be held privately.
