Steven
Francois
Sep 8, 1958 — Jul 7, 2026
Middletown
Steven John Francois, 67, of Middletown, CT, beloved husband of Carol (Matyszczyk) Francois, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Tuesday, July 7, 2026. He was born in Warwick, RI, son of the late Norman and Margaret (Greenan) Francois. Steven was a graduate of Bishop Hendricken High School and went on to earn his degree from Rhode Island College. He then worked in the construction business for 40 plus years, most recently retiring from over 15 years as a Senior Project Administrator with Empire Paving.
There are many words that could describe Steven, but the one that stands above them all: integrity. He was a man whose honesty, strong values and unwavering character guided every part of his life. Steven believed in doing what was right, keeping his word, and treating others with respect. He also reminded those around him not to take life too seriously, joke and laugh at every opportunity.
Above all else, Steven was a devoted husband to his wife Carol, and father to his children Melissa and Jonathan. Together, Steven and Carol built a life for their family filled with love, cherished memories and unwavering support. His grandchildren, Madison and Michael held a special place in his heart, and the time he spent with them brought him boundless happiness up until his last day.
Beyond his family, many passions always brought a smile to his face, especially singing, restoring his cherished 1956 Buick Special, and spending time at his beloved beach cottage in Old Lyme, CT. For many years, he was a devoted coach for his son's St. Mary CYO basketball team and Middletown Little League. His passion for music remained constant throughout his life. He was a proud member of two choirs: The Middlesex Hospital Vocal Chords and Rock Voices of West Hartford, CT.
Steven leaves behind a legacy of integrity, love, faithfulness, and unwavering devotion to his family. Though he will be greatly missed, the values he lived by and the love he shared will remain in the hearts of those who loved him. His life reminds us that true wealth is not measured by possessions, but by the character we demonstrate, the love we give, and the lives we touch.
Steven is predeceased by his parents Norman and Margaret (Greenan) Francois and sister, Margaret “Meg” Francois. He is lovingly survived by his wife, Carol and son, Jonathan Francois of Middletown, CT; daughter, Melissa Lonsdale, her husband Michael, grandchildren Madison and Michael of Portland, CT; his brother Robert Francois and wife Paulette of Avondale, PA and brother Michael Francois of Warwick, RI and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
His Funeral Liturgy will be held on Thursday, July 16th at 10 a.m. at St. Mary of Czestochowa Church in Middletown, CT. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, July 15th from 5 to 7 p.m. at Biega Funeral Home, 3 Silver St. Middletown, CT.
