Obituary

Stanley "Gus" Gecewicz, Jr., 76, of Middletown, died Thursday February 20, 2025 at his home.

He was born in Middletown, son of the late Stanley J. Gecewicz Sr. and Catherine (Jasion) Gecewicz. He attended St. Mary's School then chose a technical path at Vinal Regional Technical High School and completed an associate degree at Hartford State Technical College. Gus worked at Hartford Ball Bearing for many years before retiring from OGS Technologies.

Gus is survived by his siblings; Ronald Gecewicz and his wife Margo of Wallingford, Julie D'Orio and her husband Jay of Cromwell, Marcia Vecca and her husband Tony of East Hampton, Laura Blicharz and her husband Lester of East Hartford, John Gecewicz and his wife Elizabeth of Margate, New Jersey, Lucille Gecewicz of Boca Raton Florida, Donna Gecewicz of Newington, as well several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and godchildren.

He was a lifelong parishioner of St Mary of Czestochowa Church and an active member of the Polish National Home, Tadeusz Kosciuszko Society, Polish Falcons, Rocky Hill Elks, Fraternal Order of Eagles and Moose Lodge 1547. Gus coached boys and girls CYO basketball for 50 years receiving numerous citations from; the City of Middletown, Bishop of Norwich, Reverend Michael R. Cote, Saint John Paul II Regional Catholic School, The Reverend Paul Piechocki CYO Basketball League. Gus was a die-hard athletic for 50+ years in the local sports utilizing speed, power and tenacity regardless of the sport he played, basketball, fast pitch baseball, softball, touch football, volleyball, golf, horseshoes and darts.

Calling hours will be held on Friday 28th from 4 to 7 p.m. at Biega Funeral Home, 3 Sliver St. Middletown. The Funeral Liturgy will be held on Saturday March 1st 10 a.m. at St. Mary of Czestochowa Church, 79 South Main St., Middletown. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
