Shirley (Hale) Long, 90, of Portland, wife of the late Edward F. Long, Sr., died Wednesday October 15, 2025 surrounded by her family. She was born in Middletown on January 04, 1935, daughter of the late Watson A. and Mary (Dingwell) Hale, Sr.

Shirley's joys in life were her family, baking & knitting. She was a devout Catholic and loved taking care of her grandchildren.

Shirley is survived by her children, Nancy Arcand (Michael) of Portland, Mary Eccles (Timothy) of Portland, who cared for her, along with her niece, Cindy Granata. She also leaves daughters, Deborah & Karen. Shirley also leaves behind 20 grandchildren & several great grandchildren; her oldest sibling, Harriet (William) Sanborn and many nieces & nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Edward Sr.; sons, Edward Jr. and Gary; siblings Patricia (Hale) Long & Watson Andrew Hale, Jr.

The Funeral Liturgy will be held on Saturday October 25th at 10 a.m. at St. Mary Church, 51 Freestone Ave, Portland. Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery.
