Sheila Ryan Daugherty, 79, of Gales Ferry, beloved wife of James E. Daugherty of 43 years, passed away on Wednesday April 12, 2023, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. She received the Catholic Sacrament of the Last Rites. She was born in Middletown, daughter of the late Neil and Mary (Brophy) Ryan. She graduated Registered Nurse 1964 from St Francis Nursing School Hartford CT. Prior to her retirement Sheila was a psychiatric nurse working night shift 18 years in Dl Backus Hospital. Norwich. She compassionately cared for many with troubled minds. She loved her cats & dogs and became an avid fan of the Denver Broncos while working in Denver Colorado. She loved to travel with her husband on many vacation trips and visited her sister many times in New Mexico.

Sheila is survived by her sister, Mary Ann Ryan Keller of Albuquerque New Mexico, and her brother Attorney Daniel B. Ryan of Middletown CT and was loved by her nieces and nephew. Her husband would like to give a special thank you to the staff at Bayview Nursing Home Waterford who gave her compassionate care during her stay there for over two years.

The funeral service will be held on Thursday April 20, 2023, at 11 a.m. at Biega Funeral Home, 3 Silver St. Middletown. A burial will follow at State Veterans Cemetery, Middletown. Family and friends may gather prior to service on Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. at Biega Funeral Home. Those who wish may send memorial contributions in Sheila's memory to St Jude's Children Hospital.
