Salvatore "Joe" Magnano, 81, of Durham, beloved husband of Susan (Schrader) Wood, passed away Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at Connecticut Hospice in Branford.
Joe was born in Middletown, son of the late, Salvatore J. and Eleanor V. (Freberg) Magnano.
Prior to his retirement, Joe was employed as a drug and alcohol counselor at Conn. Valley Hospital and Conn Mental Health Center. He was an accomplished musician and songwriter and played many venues with his son Rick and brothers Paul and Jerry. Joe loved his family, was an avid Yankees fan. and longtime friend of Bill W.
Besides his wife, Susan, Joe is survived by a son Rick Magnano of Colchester, two daughters, Debbie Faraci and her husband Eddie of Summerville, South Carolina, Jolynn Anderson of Middletown, stepchildren, Hannah Lister and her wife Kris of Salem MA, Caroline Wood and her husband Dave of Middlefield, Scott Wood and his wife Alissa of Broomfield Colorado, and Jennifer Longo and her husband Mark of Durham, and eight grandchildren, Britney Reyes of Daytona, FL, John Adam Cooper of Middletown, Timothy Tozier of Thomaston, Joshua Anderson of Middletown, Anja Wood of Northampton Massachusetts, Marley Wood of Middlefield, Matthew Wood of Broomfield Colorado, Olivia, Gavin and Kelsey Longo of Durham and two great-grandchildren, Claire Rayes and Azula Rose Tozier.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, October 15th at 7 pm at Biega Funeral Home 3 Silver Street, Middletown. Friends may gather prior to the service from 5 to 7 pm. Ashes will be scattered privately by the family.
