Sallene Mae (Romano) Jacobson passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, September 4 ^th . Sallene is survived by her loving husband of 59 years Harold William Jacobson, Jr., daughters Lisa Jacobson (Neal) of Fair Haven, VT and Lynn Harlow (Stephen) of Haddam, grandchildren Marc and Jenni-Lynn Fuoco and Cody and Cassie Harlow, sister Carolyn Geruch (Joe) of Higganum, sister-in-law Maureen Romano of Middletown, sister-in-law Frances Pacholski of Guilford, and brother-in-law Phil Jacobson of Cathedral City, CA. Sallene was predeceased by her brother Joseph Romano, brother-in-laws Edward Pacholski, Robert Jacobson and his wife Geraldine. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews and a group of lifelong friends.

Sallene was born in Middletown to the late Salvatore Romano and Mildred Daniels Hall. Upon graduating from Middletown High School, she worked for Hartford National Bank and shortly after married the love of her life, Jake who was a chef in the Army Reserves, worked for Good Year Rubber Company, and later for Sunshine Dairy. They married December 1962 and together built their home in Middletown.  She worked as a school guard and later for the Parking Authority Department for the City of Middletown.

While raising her daughters, Sallene kept pretty busy. She held quite a few volunteer positions and is mostly remembered for the countless hours she spent volunteering with both St. Sebastian Church and St. Sebastian School.  She assisted with feast preparation, spaghetti dinners, chaperoning on school trips, but she especially loved volunteering in the classrooms wherever she was needed. She took much enjoyment when teaching various art activities.

Crafts of all kinds were her hobbies throughout life. Sewing dance costumes, decorating the most beautiful cakes for every occasion including weddings, making porcelain dolls and holiday decorations to name a few. She entered many craft fairs with Christmas ornaments and later in life she volunteered as a judge for the Durham Fair crafts. Sallene was a great cook constantly preparing various dishes and desserts to host family dinners. She was always thinking of others and known to deliver meals and desserts to family and friends.

Surrounded by baseball as a child, she grew to love the sport and became a huge baseball fan. Her parents, along with others, worked endlessly in starting up the Ahern Whalen League in Middletown.  It was important to Sallene that her parents be recognized for their efforts so she worked hard until they were both inducted in the Sports Hall of Fame.

Sallene's biggest joy was always her grandchildren and family. She along with her husband would attend many sports and school events whenever possible and they hosted many holiday dinners and gatherings.  She was a true animal lover who took in many stray dogs and cats over the years. Her favorite was her German Shepard Missy.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday (September 13 ^th ) at 11 a.m. at Biega Funeral Home, 3 Silver St., Middletown.  Burial will be in St. Sebastian Cemetery, Rockfall.  Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday at Biega Funeral Home, prior to the service.
