Obituary

Rita Simonne (Marlow) Caron, 94, of Middletown, Connecticut, passed away peacefully on October 4, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Born on May 5, 1930, in New Bedford, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of Edward and Laura (Mitron) Marlow.

Rita was predeceased by her devoted husband of 51 years, Alfred L. Caron; her son, Alfred L. Caron Jr.; her brother and sister-in-law, Raymond and Barbara Desrosiers; and her sister and brother-in-law, Violet and Daniel Sperduti.

She is survived by her son Normand Caron and his wife, Donna; her grandchildren Alfred "Fred," David, Katelyn, and Laura and her husband, Stephen Swanson, along with their children, Maddison and Aiden. She is also lovingly remembered by her daughters-in-law, Kathleen Mercer and Linda Dougherty, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Rita dedicated over 20 years of service as a nurse's aide at Middlesex Hospital, playing a vital role in the opening of the outpatient department and working in the maternity ward. A devout member of St. Pius X Church for more than 60 years, she was an active participant in the church's craft group and holiday fair, where she shared her love for crafting. Her talent for creating was reflected in the countless handmade treasures that adorned her home and those of her loved ones. One of her greatest joys was crocheting, having made over 1,000 hats for the Middlesex Cancer Center.

In addition to her crafting, Rita found joy in reading, puzzling, and hosting friends and family for tea, always accompanied by a plate of cookies. Her warm and welcoming spirit touched all who knew her.

A Funeral Liturgy will be held in her honor on Friday, October 11th at 12:00 p.m. at St. Pius X Church, 310 Westfield St., Middletown. Friends and family may gather prior to the service from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Biega Funeral Home, 3 Silver St., Middletown. Burial will be privately held at the State Veterans Cemetery, at a later date.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Water's Edge Center for Health & Rehabilitation and Middlesex Hospital Hospice for their compassionate care and support and to Carlene at One Patient at a Time for her care for Rita. In lieu of flowers, donations in Rita's memory may be made to Disabled American Veterans, Attention: Gift Processing, PO Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250.
