Richard Thompson, 79, of Middletown, beloved husband of Kathleen (Grant) Thompson, passed away on Friday September 12, 2025, at Middlesex Hospital. He was born in New Haven, son of the late Milton and Marie (Dolan) Thompson. He was a graduate of Notre Dame High School in West Haven, Connecticut and of Sienna College in Loudonville, New York.
Richard was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving with the US Army. As a member of the Military Police Brigade, he received the Army Commendation Medal for his service as a reporter in the information office at Long Binh. He was a member of the Veterans of Vietnam War, Inc in Middletown. He worked for Pratt & Whiteny for over 50 years as a Scientific Analyst. In his spare time, he enjoyed crossword puzzles, Sudoku, and collecting stamps.
Richard is survived by his wife Kathleen, daughters Kelly Thompson of Palm Bay, FL, Heather Thompson and her boyfriend Bobby Norton of Thomaston, and his brother Roger Thompson of Hamden.
The family would like to thank Dr. Uday Lele and staff in the Medical Oncology Department at MidState Medical Center in Meriden, as well as the staff at Wadsworth Glenn, and the staff North 2 ICU & South 7 Hospice at Middlesex Hospital.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday Sept 21st from 2 to 4 p.m., with a funeral service following at 4 p.m. at Biega Funeral Home, 3 Silver St. Middletown. Burial with military honors will be held on Monday at 12 p.m. at the State Veterans' Cemetery on Bow Lane in Middletown.
