Middletown
Richard W. Staples, 87, of Middletown, beloved husband of Carolyn (Woollacott) Staples, passed away on Sunday September 22, 2024 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Richard was born in Port Jefferson, Long Island, NY, son of the late John W. Staples and Anna (Jogus) Staples Avery. Richard retired from working for the State of Connecticut's Highway Department.
Richard is survived by his wife Carolyn, son, Daniel Staples, daughter, Wendy Ollari, five grandchildren Sarah, Mike, Jamie, Jen, and John, four great-grandchildren, siblings Sharon Ramer, Fred Staples, Bruce Avery, Joan Measimer, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son Brian, and siblings, Betty Ann Woltman and Arthur Staples.
Growing up in East Hampton, CT, Richie discovered his love for the outdoors spending his days, fishing and hiking in the woods. He then discovered his next love of riding motorcycles and met his true love Cari. Richie and Cari spent many summers and weekends camping and picking bluegrass music with their friends. In later years, Richie loved to paint watercolors and was always willing to let others borrow his completed paintings. He also enjoyed spending nice days kayaking the Mattabassett and Coginchaug rivers and pointing out the wildlife to anyone who would listen. Richie was known to many as "The Answer Man" able to answer any question you threw at him. Richie and his quick-witted sense of humor will be missed by all who knew him.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday Sept 29th, from 11a.m. to 1 p.m. followed by brief prayer service at 1 p.m. at Biega Funeral Home, 3 Silver St. Middletown.
