Obituary

Richard A. Hunt. It is with deep love and sadness that we announce the passing of Richard A. Hunt, 66, of Middletown, on Thursday August 13, 2026, surrounded by his loved ones. Over the past few years, Rick fought a courageous battle against Parkinson’s, dementia and Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia. He was the devoted and caring husband of Julie (Chittenden) Hunt. Rick was born in Middletown, son of the late Edward “Eddie” Hunt and Jean (Palau) Hunt. Rick attended Farm Hill Elementary, Woodrow Willson Middle and Vinal Technical High School, graduating from the carpentry program.

Prior to his retirement Rick was the owner of Rick’s Woodworking and was also employed with Wood’n Excellence for many years. He was a master carpenter, leaving his mark of fine craftsmanship in homes and businesses throughout the state. Rick loved being with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren, going for rides on his Harley, camping, hunting, doing yard work, working with wood, and most recently attending Rock-Steady Boxing. Rick was very involved with the New Haven Raccoon Club, being honored as a life-time member after many years of chairing the Bird Committee, helping with the fishing derby and pitching in with whatever the task. Rick was also a Cub Scout Den Leader and Cub Master for Pack 72 in Middletown for many years, and a member of the Polish Falcons.

In addition to his wife of 38 years, he is survived by a son, Derek Hunt (Daniella) of Middletown and a daughter, Breanne Hunt (Omar Rivera) of Middletown; three grandchildren, Cameron Hunt, Eli Rivera and Alexiya Rivera all of Middletown; two sisters, Linda Wilson (Richard) of PA, and Trish Hunt (Jim Hood) of Middletown ; brother-in-law Jay Chittenden of Meriden; as well as his niece Luka (John) Muskatallo, who provided guidance through his medical journey. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, an aunt, cousins and many friends. Rick was predeceased by a brother, Timothy Hunt (Ruth) of FL.

Funeral services will be held Saturday August 22, 2026, at 12 pm, at Biega Funeral Home 3 Silver Street, Middletown. Friends may gather prior to the service, from 10 am to 12 pm.
