Obituary

Richard “Dick” C. Kellish, 85, of Durham, husband of Joyce A. (Parmelee) Kellish, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, October 20, 2026 at Hartford Hospital.

Born in Middletown, he was the son of the late Daniel A. and Florence A. (Way) Kellish. Prior to his retirement, Dick worked as a sales representative for local metal fabrication companies. Many may also remember him by his distinctive license plate, “METAL 1,” a fitting reflection of his longtime career. Dick built lasting relationships with his customers, many of whom became lifelong friends. He valued these connections and the friendships he developed throughout his career.

An avid golfer, Dick enjoyed the camaraderie that came with the game. He was actively involved with the Coginchaug Benchwarmers and was a dedicated Hartford Whalers fan, holding season tickets year after year. Whether through his work, his love of golf, or his enthusiasm for hockey, Dick cherished the friendships and shared experiences that enriched his life.

He was a member of the Westbrook Elks Lodge and an avid sports fan. A longtime member of the Durham community, Dick was a familiar face around town, where he formed many lasting relationships and will be fondly remembered by those who knew him.

Dick and his beloved wife, Joyce, shared nearly 50 years of marriage. Together, they enjoyed spending winters in Hillsboro Beach, Florida, where they also formed many lasting friendships over the years.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Eric Kellish and his wife Beth of Denver, NC; his sister-in-law, Carol (Parmelee) Brauer, and her husband Michael William Brauer of Portland CT; as well as his nieces, great-niece, and great nephew. He was predeceased by his brother, Daniel W. Kellish.

Funeral services will be private, and there will be no calling hours. Burial will be in Middlefield Cemetery.
