Phyllis K.
Jakubiec
Sep 12, 1929 — Nov 4, 2025
Portland
Phyllis K. (Polek) Jakubiec, 96, formerly of Portland and Middletown and wife of the late Dr. Frank J. Jakubiec Jr., passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 4, 2025.
She was born in Enfield, daughter of the late Albert and Josephine (Szarowicz) Polek. Prior to her retirement Phyllis was a receptionist while working for Covenant Village in Cromwell CT.
Phyllis is survived by her son Dr. Robert Jakubiec and his wife Dorothy of Middletown; daughter Catherine Archer and her husband Gregg of Portland; grandchildren Chris, Julie, Michael, Cheryl and Tommy; great grandchildren Rylynn, William, Owen, Emily, Collins and Crawford; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Frank and son Thomas Jakubiec, six brothers and five sisters.
Phyllis dearly loved her family and especially her 6 great grandchildren who brought so much joy and love to her heart. She loved her birds and was an avid bridge player into her 90's. Phyllis loved gardening, the beach and sunsets and was a devoted UConn girls' basketball fan. She was a gifted painter, as many now covet a precious treasure. Phyllis thoroughly enjoyed their getaway palace in Vermont spending hours just driving around the state while Frank took pictures.
Phyllis had another family. At Water's Edge for Health and Rehabilitation everybody knew Phyllis, and she was dubbed "Best Dressed." Before going to daily bingo she had to fix her hair and put on her makeup. She gave many staff members a hard time, and the compassion and love the staff and residents all showed Phyllis and her family on the day of her passing was truly heart-warming. The family extends its most sincere appreciation to Water's Edge.
