Noel Perez, 81, of Portland, beloved husband of Rose Marie (Nettis) Perez, passed away on Tuesday, November 21, 2023 at Middlesex Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Noel was born on March 11, 1942, to Juan and Francisca (Rivera) Perez, in Ponce, Puerto Rico. After graduation from Ponce High School, Noel moved to Middletown CT in 1962 with hopes of becoming a police officer. Noel was called to service during the Vietnam War and served with the United States Army in Germany as part of a helicopter repair unit. Once his time was served, Noel continued his service with the Army National Guard. Noel joined the City of Middletown Police Department and worked as a police officer, later becoming a detective and served for over 26 years. In his earlier years, Noel volunteered for Big Brothers Organization of Middletown, CT.
Noel's hobbies included woodworking, photography, and working on his cars. Noel was passionate about his police work. However, his greatest joy was his family. Noel was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
Noel is survived by his wife, Rose Marie; and three daughters, Debra and her husband Alan Uhlman of Middlefield, Frances and her husband Bill Cardona of Portland, Rose Marie and her husband Todd Austin of Portland; brothers, Juan Perez of FL, Juan Orlando Perez of PR, Jorge Perez of PR, Carlos Perez of Middletown; sisters, Frances Perez of Middletown, Leddys Candelaria of FL; seven grandchildren, Alexandra Bond, Zachary Uhlman, Joseph and Jessica Cardona, Amanda, Sara and Cristina Austin; three great-grandchildren, Cameron Uhlman, Logan and Cooper Bond; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents and brother, Orlando Perez of PR.
The Funeral Liturgy will be held on Thursday, November 30th at 10:30 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 10 Elm Street, Middletown. Burial with military honors will follow at the State Veterans' Cemetery. Calling hours will be on Wednesday, November 29th from 5 to 7 pm. at Biega Funeral Home, 3 Silver St. Middletown.
