Nicholas R. Giardina, Sr., 87, of Middletown, beloved husband of Gail (Carta) Giardina passed away peacefully in his sleep Monday April 7, 2025.
Nick was born in Middletown, son of the late Sebastian and Anna (Bartolotta) Giardina. Nick proudly served his country receiving honorable discharges from the Army, Naval Reserve, and National Guard. In addition, he volunteered in the US Coast Guard Auxiliary during his retirement.
Nick was self-employed as a General Contractor and later established Valley Kitchens and Baths which was located on Main Street in Middletown. He was also a Union Carpenter with Local 154. Nick was a master craftsman who had a passion for building furniture, cabinets, and crafts always using his meticulous work ethic. His attention to detail was captured in the saying "if you don't do it right, then don't do it at all."
Many of his fondest memories included spending time with his family especially during holiday gatherings. Nick was an avid New York Yankees and New York Giants fan. He loved boating, fishing, crabbing, gardening and enjoyed preparing foods using the fruits and vegetables from his garden.
Besides his wife of 61 years, Nick is survived by Nicholas and Patricia Giardina, Jr. of Berlin, David Giardina of Middletown, Michael and Sharon Giardina of Durham, and four grandchildren, Daniel, Stephanie, Samuel, and Alexandra. He was predeceased by a brother, Vincent James Giardina and a sister, Carmelina (Carmie) Giardina.
The family would like to thank all of the staff at Portland Rehabilitation for their outstanding care and support during Nick's final years.
Friends may call prior to the service from 9:00AM to 10:30AM at Biega Funeral Home - 3 Silver Street, Middletown Monday April 14, 2025. A Funeral Liturgy will follow at 11:00AM at Saint Francis of Assisi Church, Elm Street, Middletown. Burial with military honors will take place at the State Veterans' Cemetery in Middletown. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Nick's name to the charity of your choice.
