Maureen A.
Romano
Dec 4, 1937 — Aug 8, 2024
Middletown
Maureen A. (Farrands) Romano, beloved wife of 58 years to the late Joseph R. Romano, passed away peacefully on Thursday August 8th, 2024.
Maureen was born on December 4th, 1937, and grew up on Russell Street in Middletown. The daughter of the late Richard and Margaret (Tobin) Farrands. She was a proud graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School, class of 1955.
She was a dedicated employee of the City of Middletown working for the Parking Authority in the Police Department formerly located on Church Street. She worked the majority of her career as the Chief Records Clerk until achieving the title of Acting Director, before retiring in 1997.
Maureen enjoyed baking. You could not get enough of her chocolate chip or molasses cookies and brownies. She was also an animal lover; with her favorites being Princess, Sara and Rocky. Maureen was captain of the majorettes while at WWHS.
She enjoyed family vacations at Clinton Beach where the extended family would always visit and spend a few days. Maureen and Joe then purchased a beach house in Matunuck, Rhode Island; This was her paradise. She loved going to the beach; going boating with Joe and the boys; or simply entertaining family and friends. Many mornings she patiently (and nervously) sat on the deck with Rocky on her lap waiting for Joe and Scott to arrive back safely from their early morning fishing trips….and there better be no bones in the fillets!
In addition to her husband and parents, Maureen was predeceased by her sister and brother-in-law, Marge and Joe Murphy; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Harold "Jake" and Sallene (Romano) Jacobson; Joe and Carolyn (Romano) Geruch; niece, Lynn Barnes.
Maureen is survived by her sons, Scott Romano and his wife Louise; Rick Romano and his wife Rochele; her loving grandchildren Rose Romano and Ricky Romano; step granddaughter, Melissa Peterson; step great granddaughter, Ava Hope Cales. special nieces, Loreen, Lisa, Lynn, Shelly and Sherry.
The Romano family would like to thank the Village at South Farms and Autumn Lake, especially Sarah Lombardo and Robin Lombardo for their compassionate care of our mother.
