Mary M.
Labella
Feb 11, 1930 — May 6, 2026
Middletown
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Mary M. (Augeri) LaBella, resident of Middletown, CT for her first 88 years, who passed away in her sleep on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, aged 96.
Born on February 11, 1930, in Middletown, Mary was the youngest daughter of Antonio Augeri (d. 3-27-72) and Carmelina (Guerrero) Formica (d. 8-20-44), and was predeceased by nine brothers and sisters. Having met the love of her life after he returned from his service in Europe in the Second World War, she and Sebastian H. LaBella (d. 11-29-2011) were married on September 23, 1948- sharing their lives together for 63 years. Retired from the State of Connecticut, Mary lived in the same house on Tryon Street for 60 years, before moving to Simsbury to be nearer to her children and their spouses. She is survived by her daughter, Elaine, and her wife, Jane Bielefield, of Torrington, CT and her son, David, and his wife, Kaarina, of Simsbury, CT, and several nieces and nephews.
Mary will be remembered as an avid crafter and a marvelous cook, as a kind and loving mother, and a compassionate and generous friend. Her home was always ready to welcome any and all who chanced to stop by, and she was always willing to set her table and open her heart to her neighbors and relatives, hosting holiday feasts for both sides of her large family. She made lifelong friends in her neighborhood and in her workplace, many of whom continued to visit up until her final days. Never someone to place herself ahead of others, Mary was selfless, sympathetic, and understanding of life's many trials and gifts.
Throughout their long and loving marriage, she and Seb travelled widely and supported each other through all of their long and happy years together. After Seb passed 15 years ago, she always told us about how much she looked forward to rejoining him so that they could continue to share their mutual love.
Mary will be remembered at a graveside service at the Connecticut State Veterans' Cemetery on Bow Lane in Middletown, CT on Tuesday, May 19th at 12 noon. There will be no other calling hours. In lieu of flowers or other tributes, the family asks that donations be sent to: The Connecticut Soldiers, Sailors, and Marines Fund 864 Wethersfield Avenue, Hartford, CT 06114-3184.
