Cromwell

Obituary

Mark H. McAuliffe, 67 of Cromwell, passed away on February 5, 2025, at Middlesex Hospital after a brief illness.  Mark was born in Middletown, CT on July 16, 1957, to Yvonne McAuliffe and the late Howard A. McAuliffe. Mark lived most of his life in Higganum, CT as well as North Carolina before moving to Cromwell.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his sisters Kimberly Korineck and her husband Martin of Amston, Susan Sowa and her husband Marc of NC, Mark's brother Kevin McAuliffe and his wife Vicki of FL.  He was Uncle Mark to his nieces Erica, Samantha, Rachel and Katie and his nephews Kurt, Kyle, Kristopher, Ryan and Nicholas and their spouses and families. He is also survived by several great-nieces and nephews and his Aunt Gwen Valley and many cousins.

Even though Mark had trouble with mobility, he had many family and friends from across the country who he would call and talk with daily (he had the gift of gab). He loved his family and his research and knowledge of family history (the McAuliffe, Lyman, Smith and Valley families) was extremely detailed combined with his memory of family events, people and places was amazing. He loved organizing family picnics and campfires at his parents' house in Higganum. Mark enjoyed playing cards especially with his Sunday card group with his cousin Berniece and friend Maurine. He also enjoyed playing board games with his nieces and nephews when they were younger as well as showing them how to bake. He had a great fondness of Maine and everything about it, especially its lighthouses. Mark was also a former member of the Haddam Volunteer Fire Department Juniors.

Mark's family would like to thank the caring and compassionate doctors (especially Dr. Wolff) and nurses in the Critical Care Unit who cared for him during his illness at Middlesex Hospital. We would also like to thank Rev. Dr. Stopka at Middlesex Hospital for her kindness, compassion and spiritual care she gave to Mark and to us after his passing.

Burial will be at Pine Grove Cemetery at the convenience of the family. To share memories or express condolences online please visit www.biegafuneralhome.com
