Marjorie Archer
Lavin
Oct 9, 1936 — Jun 5, 2024
Middletown
Marjorie Archer Lavin, 87, of Middletown passed away peacefully on June 5, 2024. Marjorie was the beloved wife of the late John Lavin, she is the daughter of Beatrice Wilcox and Valmor LaGue. Marjorie was raised by her stepfather, Leslie Wilcox Sr., who in every way was her real father. She met her biological father when she was 55 years old. She brought him to her house and took care of him until he passed. Although she had just met him, she did not want him to die alone.
She was an outstanding daughter to her parents and had a strong bond with her mother. Prior to her death, she was a childcare worker supervisor at Riverview Hospital for children. Marjorie, along with her husband, was instrumental in unionizing Riverview Hospital with District 1199 Healthcare Union. At Riverview she was known as "Norma Rae." She stayed active in the union until she retired in 1992.
Marjorie is survived by daughters, Tanya Lemanski, Shelley Maura, and son Dorell Archer; stepbrother, Leslie Wilcox Jr.; grandchildren Jason, Jocelyn, Paul, John, Josh, Jamie; several great grandchildren; and Robin Faith, a very special person who called Marjorie "Mom" for over 30 years. Marjorie was predeceased by her brother Clifton Wilcox, two daughters Renay Didato and Wanda McLean; son in law Mark Lemanski; her stepbrothers, Carlton, Clarence, Lewis and Richard Wilcox; and stepsisters Helen Moores, Mabel Smith, Mary Moores, and Amy Dennison.
Marjorie was born and raised in Lubec, Maine. She was raised on a farm with her siblings and had wonderful memories in which she talked about until her passing. She was an adamant animal lover and cherished her time in the company of animals. Marjorie also loved her country and western music and enjoyed playing the guitar.
