Obituary

Marie (Hope) Dunn, 92, of Middletown, CT passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 17, 2024, after a short illness. She was the beloved widow of Eugene Michael Dunn, her husband of 57 years, who predeceased her in 2017.

Marie was born in Hartford, CT, daughter of the late Raymond W. Hope, Sr. and Helen (Foley) Hope. A nearly lifelong resident of Connecticut, Marie had many happy years in Old Saybrook and Durham nurturing and caring for her children and living life to the fullest among family and friends. In 1987 Marie and Gene relocated to Middletown where they continued to build memories while exemplifying the true meaning of lifelong love and devotion for all to see.

For nearly 30 years Marie was an admired teacher in Regional School District 13, serving the needs of students in Durham and Middlefield by gracefully cultivating reading and grammar skills. She initiated a drama club program for 5th and 6th grade students at Middlefield Memorial School where a highlight for the community was the annual play starring her students. Marie always had great joy seeing her young drama club members embrace and perform their roles in the play while she led and directed each production. Early in her teaching career Marie served the needs of U.S. Air Force families as a civilian teacher to the children of military families based in Great Britain. Marie was a woman of great faith with profound trust in the Lord.

Marie is survived by her four children, Michael J. Dunn and his wife Rebecca of New Hartford, CT; Jeanne D. Randazzo and her husband Joseph of Durham, CT; Joseph G. Dunn and his wife Martha of Nantucket, MA; and Monica D. Agostinelli and her husband William of Middletown, CT. She is also survived by her six grandchildren, Emily Roes and her husband Steve, Patrick Dunn, Hannah Eve Dunn, Mary Greenidge and her husband Jon, U.S. Army Captain Jacob Randazzo, and Matthew Randazzo. Marie also leaves three great-grandchildren, Nora H. Roes, Elias A. Roes, and Charles E. Greenidge, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Raymond W. Hope, Jr., Joseph J. Hope, and a sister, Sr. Jeanne F. Hope, CSJ.
