Maria Assunta Merenda, age 91, of Carmel, New York, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on October 22, 2025. Born on August 16, 1934, in Calabria, Italy, she was the daughter of the late Angelo and Carolina Greco.

Maria was a devoted wife to the late Luigi Merenda and a loving mother to her three sons: Salvatore (Patricia), Anthony (Susan), and Michael (Catherine). She was a proud grandmother to Michael Merenda (Kristine), Lisa Annis (Marshall), Laurie Chute (Patrick), and Megan Merenda, and a cherished great-grandmother to Brendan and Lexi Chute, and Juliana and Olivia Annis.

She is also survived by her sister, Louise Greco Germain, her beloved sister-in-law, Adeline Bastone, and many nieces and nephews to whom she was like a second mother — including John, Anthony, and Rosalie Bastone, and Missy Martin.

Maria was known for her exceptional cooking, passion, and the love and care she gave to her family. She was also an excellent seamstress, generously offering her skills to family and friends whenever needed. Her warmth, selflessness, sense of humor and dedication will be remembered always.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday, October 24th from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at St. Colman Church, 170 Hubbard Street, Middlefield, Connecticut. An additional calling hour will be held on Saturday, October 25th from 9:00 to 10:00 AM, immediately followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10:00 AM.  Burial will take place at 1:30 PM at Ferncliff Cemetery, 280 Secor Road, Hartsdale, New York.
