Margaret
Mietkiewicz
May 25, 1936 — Nov 30, 2025
Middletown
Margaret (Wacht) Mietkiewicz, 89, of Middletown, wife of the late Antoni Mietkiewicz, entered into eternal peace Sunday, November 30, 2025, at Chestelm Heath Care in Moodus, CT.
She was born in Hartford, the youngest child of Peter and Josephine (Kisiel) Wacht, and attended SS. Cyril and Methodius School and Bulkeley High School.
She was a longtime resident of Middletown, having moved there after her marriage. She worked for many years at the former Queen's Convalescent Home in Middletown.
Margaret never met an animal she didn't love. Whether a sick bird, raccoon, rabbit or stray cat showed up on her doorstep, she took them in and cared for them. Her little dog companion, Suzette, would round out her lifetime of adored pets. She was the same way with people, always friendly and welcoming to anyone she met.
She loved crafting, and crocheted and needlepointed many things for friends and family over the years. She loved playing cards, Scrabble, other board games and making puzzles.
Her grandchildren were her greatest joy. Spending time with them, taking care of them and sharing adventures and experiences with them will remain some of the best memories of their "Boppi". Her sense of humor, silliness and sass will be missed by all who knew her.
Margaret leaves her daughters, Karen Eckert of Higganum, Barbara Rioux of Moodus and Lisa Shubat of East Haddam along with her grandchildren, Jeffrey Eckert, Jr. (Marisa), Jack Eckert, Benjamin Rioux, Joseph Rioux and Danielle Shubat, great-granddaughters Margaret Eckert and Charlotte Eckert and many nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, she was pre-deceased by daughter Marie Mietkiewicz and son-in-law, Jeffrey Eckert, Sr.
There are no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at 10:30 am at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 10 Elm St., Middletown. Burial will be held at Calvary Cemetery. To share memories or express condolences online, please visit www.biegafuneralhome.com.
