Margaret Hyman Ashby, 80, of Cromwell, died Tuesday September 22, 2026 at her home.

She was born in Florence, SC, the daughter of the late Marion and Addie (Robinson) Spears. Prior to her retirement, Margaret was an operator for the Southern New England Telephone.

She is survived by her sons, Stephen Hyman of Cromwell, Timothy Ashby of Middlefield; and a daughter, Tarynn Ashby. One of 18 children, she is survived by her siblings Eugene Hyman of Guilford, CT, Larry Spears, Ollie Williams, Letha Green all of Florence, SC, as well as many grandchildren and great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family. She was predeceased by a son, Sean Ashby.

Visitation will be held on Monday (Oct. 5th) from 5 to 7 p.m. at Biega Funeral Home, 3 Silver St., Middletown. A memorial service will be held at a future date at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 1480 North Colony Rd., Meriden. Burial will be at the convenience of her family.
