Marcy Poppel, 68, of Middletown, Connecticut, passed away on Saturday, November 29, 2025.

Marcy will be remembered for the kindness she showed so freely, the friendships she nurtured with her whole heart, her quiet generosity, and her abiding love for animals. A natural-born recorder, she was organized, meticulous, and always early. She loved playing cards and games with family and friends, and her dedication to sending more than 100 holiday—all holidays—cards each year was unmatched. Receiving a card from Marcy (and Isabella Kitty) was a guaranteed spark of joy.

Born on April 14, 1957, in New Britain, Connecticut, Marcy was the daughter of Clifford and Gloria Poppel. She is survived by her siblings, Cliff (April) Poppel and Deb(Bruce) Reed; five nieces—Denise Payne, Melissa Reed, Katherine Poppel, Ali (Kelsey) Reed, and Sarah Poppel; and one nephew, Chris (Brittany Gavin) Reed—all of whom will miss her deeply. She is also survived by her grandnephews Randy and Maxwell Payne, her grandniece Isabelle Payne, and her goddaughter Catherine (Nolan) Sanchez-Green. Marcy leaves behind stepchildren, Bob Paddock, Tommy Paddock, Todd (Tina) Paddock, and Tracey (Jeff) Lambert. Her cousins, especially Judy (David) Hungerford, children, and grandchildren played a vital role throughout her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clifford and Gloria Poppel, and her husband, Herb Paddock. Raised in Berlin, Connecticut, Marcy attended Berlin Public Schools and went on to earn an A.S. degree in the Executive Secretarial program from Thomas College in Waterville, Maine. She and Herb made their home in Middletown.

In 2005, Marcy was hired as Assistant to the Superintendent of Schools and Secretary to the Board of Education in Middletown until her retirement in 2023. Prior to that, she worked for the State of Connecticut (CCSU and the State Department of Banking), Aetna Health, and held various administrative and marketing roles throughout her career.

Marcy leaves a lasting legacy through her dedication to service. She was a committed member and strong advocate of the International Association of Administrative Professionals since 1993. She was a member of the Meriden Motor Boat Club of Portland where she previously served as secretary. She also volunteered for many years with Unified Theater of Middletown. After losing Herb, Marcy found strength and meaningful connection in the Middlesex Health Bereavement Program, friendships she cherished deeply.

In her free time, Marcy enjoyed traveling—by boat, car, and motorcycle. She was the friend who always organized gatherings and encouraged positive mental and physical well-being. Marcy felt truly blessed to have a loving family and many dear friends.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 6, 2025 from 1:00-2:30 pm with a words of remembrance service at 2:30 pm at Biega Funeral Home in Middletown, Connecticut.
