Obituary

Marcelle Juliette (Le Sayec) Chafin, 101, of Middletown, wife of the late Carlos E. Chafin, passed away peacefully Monday November 27, 2023 in her home.

​She was born in France on September 1, 1922, the daughter of the late Paul and Marianne (Quilré) Le Sayec. She was raised in France and met her husband Carlos when he was stationed there during the World War II.  Marcelle and Carlos became residents of Middletown in 1953 and she continued to reside in the original home.  Prior to her retirement, Marcelle was an LPN with CT Valley Hospital for almost 30 years, and also a Union Delegate Representative well into her 90's.

Marcelle will always be remembered as the matriarch of her family and her ability to keep the peace within such a large family.

​She is survived by her daughters, Lucienne (Chafin) Piontkowski and her husband Mark of Middletown;  Denise Latina and her partner Greg of West Suffield,  her sister Marie Therese Picaut of Middletown,  and Ann Le Sayec of France nine grandchildren,  Robert Caruso (Godchild)  and his fiance Tammy of Colchester, Renee Caruso and her significant other Roy of Plainville, Roxanne  Caruso and her significant other James of Middletown,  Heather Smith and her husband Brian of West Suffield, Matthew Scott and his wife Lauren of West Suffield, Diane Dedes and her husband Dimitri of Greece, Leah Dedes and her husband Petros  of Greece, and Konstantinos Dedes of Greece.  sixteen great grandchildren and nine great great grandchildren; also, several nieces and nephews.  Godchild Todd Bacote of Haddam. She was predeceased by her daughter, Reva Chafin, granddaughter, Ronnie Caruso, and great grandson Brennen Gibbons, and also, several siblings.

Special appreciation to Marcelle's live-in caregiver, Maggie. She showed so much love, and compassion for Marcelle, and her family. She gave her exceptional care and selfless dedication. We consider her as part of our family. We will be forever be grateful for the care she provided to be able to keep Marcelle in her own home.

​Funeral services will be held Friday (Dec. 1st) at 1 p.m. at Biega Funeral Home, 3 Silver St., Middletown.  Burial will be in Indian Hill Cemetery, Middletown.  Friends may call at Biega Funeral on Friday from 12 to 1 p.m. prior to the service.
