Lloyd Johnson, 87, of Portland passed away peacefully with his family by his side on November 5, 2024. Beloved husband of Janice, Lloyd was born in Middletown on September 2, 1937, and was a son of John Albert Johnson and Elizabeth Erickson Johnson. He was raised in Cromwell before moving to Portland and was a 1955 graduate of Middletown High School.

Lloyd's ingenuity and creative problem-solving ability along with his artistic talent led to a successful career as a graphic engineer.  He was employed by Standard Knapp for most of his career and holds many patents in the field of packing machinery.

Lloyd is survived by his wife of 66 years Janice (Lucey) Johnson, his daughter Diane Bordonaro and her husband Mark of Portland, his son Philip of  New Haven, his three granddaughters and great-grandson,  Meghan Bordonaro and her husband Wolfram Pohl of Carnelian Bay, California, Brittany Bordonaro and her son Brayden James of Washington, D.C. and Mallory Bordonaro of Washington, D.C.  In addition to his parents, Lloyd was predeceased by his son Donald Johnson, formerly of Portland, CT and Seattle, WA. He was also predeceased by his five brothers, Gilbert, Theodore, Howard, David, and Warren.

Throughout his life Lloyd was actively involved in Portland and the surrounding community.  He was a charter member of Portland Volunteer Fire Department Company 3 where he served as the second lieutenant. He also designed Portland's Company 3 firehouse which was built in the 1960s.  Lloyd was an avid boater and a member and past commander of the Middletown Power Squadron. He enjoyed spending his time building and flying radio controlled model airplanes and was a member of the Black Sheep Squadron of Durham.

Lloyd was dedicated to his family and his pets, especially his dog Kody and his cat Oliver.  During retirement he enjoyed traveling the country with Janice in their camper and spending much of the summer camping at Hammonasset State Park.

Friends and family may call at Biega Funeral, 3 Silver St. Middletown, Connecticut on Friday, December 6th from 4 to 6 PM.
