Lawrence M. Herrmann, 88, of Cheshire, beloved husband of Noor (Khan) Herrmann, died Wednesday December 13, 2023 at the Hospital of Central Connecticut in New Britain. He was born in New York City, son of the late David W. and Rose (Kohney) Herrmann.
Lawrence was a graduate of Harvard Law School, obtaining his B.A. from Yale University and graduated Phillips Exeter Academy. He established his practice in 1978, in Jackson Heights, NY and Cheshire, CT. He practiced law for over 50 years. His focus was in Criminal Defense and also defending veterans with "invisible" wounds and working in PTSD awareness and suicide prevention.
After enlisting in the Marine Corps, and serving as Judge Advocate obtaining the rank of Major, he was stationed at the Spanish Naval War College teaching Spanish in Madrid, and was an advisor for four years with the National Community Development Foundations in many countries. He also successfully handled extradition cases from Latin America.
Prior to his death, Lawrence was on the Board of Directors and on the Award Committee of Chapel of 4 Chaplains Memorial Foundation, he was National General Counsel for the Marine Corps League, a member of the Queens Bar Association, the New York Puerto Rican Bar Association and the Washington D.C Bar Association.
Upon his retirement, he continued to serve veterans as a pro bono attorney and advocate. Lawrence once said "The key to my success is that I am dedicated, courageous and relentless… when it comes to defending "My Vets."
Lawrence was inducted in to the Connecticut Veterans Hall of Fame in 2017 and is recognized by Martindale-Hubbell as and AV Preeminent Attorney-Peer Rated for Highest level of Professional Excellence and was recognized by the Top 100 Registry 2022-2023.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday December 22nd at 12 p.m. at Biega Funeral Home 3 Silver St. Middletown. Burial will be held at State Veterans Cemetery in Middletown following the funeral service. Visitation will be Thursday December 21st from 4 to 6 p.m. at Biega Funeral Home.
