Obituary

Kenneth Charles Twombly, 72, of Middlefield, beloved husband of Kathryn (Farley) Twombly, passed away Saturday, June 7, 2025, at Hartford Hospital.

Ken was born in Waterbury as the son of the late Kenneth M. Twombly and Mary (Porter) Twombly-Huse. He grew up in Middlefield, was a student of the town schools, and graduated from Xavier High School in Middletown, CT, in 1970. He had many interests throughout his life, including many years of work with horses; singing in a barbershop chorus; Howard Johnson's, of which his father ran multiple restaurants; woodworking; ownership of a television and appliance store in Southington; the Durham Fair; trains and railroads, an interest he shared with his son; as well as history and his family's genealogy. He was a certified direct Mayflower descendant, and was a devout UConn basketball fan.

Although retired from his full-time retail career, Ken worked part-time as a limousine driver for Liberty Limousine in Meriden. He was the president of the Middlefield Cemetery Association at the time of his passing, and he was active in numerous other town related organizations during his life including the Middlefield Volunteer Fire Department; the Middlefield Lions Club; and the Middlefield Historical Society. He was president of both the Lions Club and Historical Society for several years. His passion for the history of Middlefield and his pride in the town were unmatched.

Besides his wife, Kathryn, Ken is survived by his son, Adam Twombly; his sister, Tara Paul; his brother, Michael Twombly; his niece, Mary Paul Kelly; his brother-in-law, Paul Farley; and numerous extended relatives.
