Kathryn "Kay" (Mayer) Shumbo, 88, of Moodus, wife of the late Stephen J. Shumbo, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, October 15, 2023 with her son and daughter by her side.

Born in Middletown, CT on September 4, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Emily (Novak) Mayer, Jr. Prior to her retirement, Kay was employed with Chestelm Health in Moodus. Kay was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and a regular participant at bingo, which she truly loved playing. She also enjoyed bowling, dancing, playing cards, listening to Polka music, watching game shows and spending time with her family.

She is survived by her son, Michael (Tracy) Shumbo of Moodus, CT; her daughter, Melissa (Gregory) DiSisto of Orlando, FL; and sister, Madge Comeau of Higganum, CT. She also leaves her grandchildren, Betsy (Jack) Hennessey, Leanne Bartosiak, Kristin Shumbo, Kadie and Khloe DiSisto; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter, Emily S. Bartosiak and brother, Joseph Mayer, III.

A Funeral Liturgy will be held Friday, October 20, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Bridget of Kildare Church in Moodus. Burial will follow at Burr Cemetery in Higganum. Family and friends may call prior to the Funeral Liturgy from 10:00-10:30 a.m. Friday.
