Portland

Obituary

It is with the heaviest of hearts we announce the passing of our dear Jozef "Joe" Blaszczyk of Portland, CT. Joe was called home on Saturday, April 19, 2025, just 5 days before his 68th birthday at Middlesex Hospital with his wife and family by his side.

Joe loved the outdoor life. He was an avid fisherman who loved being out on the water and teaching the youngsters how to fish. He loved to travel with his wife until his health would no longer allow him to. Joe was so proud and happy to be able to pass down the family fishing vest to his grandson Liam at the Devils Hop Yard yearly family opening day weekend. Opening weekend has been a family tradition for 49 years now.

Joe was an amazing husband, father to all and friend. He will truly be missed by all that knew him.

Joe worked at Middlesex Hospital for over 30 years in the Engineering Department as the electrician, this is where he met his wife over 19 years ago. Back in his younger days Joe was a volunteer firefighter for Portland Fire Co 2.

Joe leaves behind his wife LeeAnn (Groeper-Tomasino), son Jozef Blaszczyk (Kate) of MA, daughter Jessica Blaszczyk (Adam). Stepdaughters (he considered his own) Teresa Tomasino (Kelvin), Hayley Smith (Justin) of TX. Sister's Wanda Blaszczyk and Lily Willard. Brother Richard Blaszczyk. Brother and sister inlaw, Peter & Maria Groeper. 9 grandchildren, Liam, Alana, Madison, Alexa, Aiden, Brance, Nevaeh, Brinley and Westin. A very special brother, Glen Gordon of SC. Nieces, Krysta Dodenhoff (Joe) and Amanda Schreiber (Dave).

Joe also leaves an extended family from the Portland VFW post 6121 as well as Camp Tiger Beetle and Buds Cafe. Joe cherished all of you and thank you for always being there for him.

Joe was very thankful for his sister Wanda and Niece Krysta. He always cherished you visits, phone calls and text messages (even though it took him forever to text back).

Per Joe's wishes, there will not be any services. There will be a "Party" (as Joe calls it) at a later date.  .  To share memories or express condolences online please visit www.biegafuneralhome.com.
