John P. "Chef" Thompson, 63, of Haddam, husband of the late Helen M. (Whitcher) Thompson, died suddenly at his home.  John was born in Boston, Massachusetts son of the late Edward F. Thompson and Constance A. (Reed) Thompson. John was a long-time chef at the River House in Haddam.  John is survived by a son, Patrick Thompson of Haddam, a brother, Steve Thompson of Maine, two sisters, June McNulty of Massachusetts and Cheryl Long of Washington.  John was predeceased by a brother James Thompson and wife Helen Thompson. John was loved by all who knew him. He was a father, a husband, a mentor, and a friend. There are only so many people in life that when you see them your day immediately gets better; John was one of those people.
