John H. Morrell, 60, formerly of Haddam, died on Friday, October 11, 2024, after a long battle with MSA. He was a resident of Care One at Holyoke in Massachusetts.

Born in Middletown on May 19th, 1964, John was the son of the late Merton and Betty (Johnson) Morrell. He served his country proudly in the US Navy from 1983 to 1987. Prior to his retirement, John dedicated his career to the East Haddam Swing Bridge and Safety Patrol for the State of Connecticut Department of Transportation.

John will be deeply missed by his children, Brooke DeRoia of Cromwell, Wyatt Morrell of Idaho,  Maranda Morrell of NY, and cherished grandson, Liam DeRoia. Additionally, John is survived by two brothers, four stepsisters, his stepmother, Dorothy "Dot" Morrell of Haddam, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother.

Visitation will be held on Friday (May 16th) from 5 to 7 p.m. at Biega Funeral Home, 3 Silver St., Middletown. Graveside services, with military honors, will be held on Saturday (May 17th) at 10 a.m. at Burr Cemetery, Higganum.
