John J.
Flannigan, Iii
Aug 18, 1958 — Mar 16, 2024
Middletown
With deep sadness, we announce the passing of John J. Flannigan, III, 65, husband of Lorraine "Lori" (Pontrelli) Flannigan on March 16, 2024.
John grew up in Durham, and was born in Middletown, on August 18, 1958. He went to Wilcox Tech for welding certification after graduating from Coginchaug High School. Prior to retirement, he worked at Cytec Industries for many years as a skilled welder and reactor operator. He was the son of the late John J. Flannigan, II and Mary (Spada) Flannigan. John is survived by his wife, Lori Flannigan, and his daughter Kelly Flannigan of Boston, MA, which was his greatest joy. He is also survived by sister Diana Flannigan of Durham, sister Doreen Fama and her husband Michael Fama of Durham, his brother, Jay Flannigan and his partner, Darlene and Darlene Flanagan and her husband Mikey of Middletown, CT. Additionally, he leaves behind his mother-in-law Lorraine Pontrelli and her late husband Anthony, who were very fond of him, as well as a number of nieces and nephews. Additionally, John will be missed by two special friends, Sal Vernale and Eddie Adams. Rudy, the faithful dog he loved, misses him already.
Cooking was John's forte. Taking care of his yard and gardening was one of his favorite things to do. In addition to flea markets and tinkering in his garage and basement, he enjoyed muscle cars, car shows, and collecting blue bottles.
An event to celebrate his life will be held at a later date.
