Jerry Edelwich, 83, of Middletown, beloved husband of Barbara (Schaefer) Puorro, died Thursday November 8, 2018 at Hartford Hospital.  He was born in Bronx, NY, son of Morris and Tania Marschal Edelwich.  Jerry was a veteran of the Korean War serving with the U.S. Air Force.  Prior to his retirement, he was a professor, author, and licensed clinical social worker.
Jerry is survived by his wife Barbara, sons, David Edelwich of FL, Michael Edelwich and his wife Linda of Glastonbury, daughter, Sarah Karanian and her husband Walter of CA, step sons, Brandon and Derek Puorro of Middletown, grandchildren, Michael Edelwich, Jr., Elle, Syndi, and Valerie Karanian, Daniel, Ella, Jake, Kayla and Alexa Puorro.  He was predeceased by his sister, Sonia.  After retiring as a professor with the State of Connecticut he was a psychotherapist in private practice. He is an author of many books, including Burnout: Stages of Disillusionment.  He worked with the United State Navy for 30 years and was twice awarded Clinical Preceptor of the year.  He has delivered workshops throughout the U.S. Canada and Europe.  Jerry was also the Director of the New England Association of Reality Therapy. He enjoyed being an umpire with the Connecticut Independent A.S.A leagues in his spare time.  He was a voracious reader with a special interest history and sports. Jerry never really retired.  He always was available to advise and coach his many friends with his unique brand of humor and perspective on life. Jerry's impact on the people in his life was exceptional.  He lived life bravely and fiercely with a passion that few dared to attempt.  Love of my life, you did it your way.
