Obituary

Jean Ann Spicer, 76, of Durham, wife of the late Dirck A. Spicer, died at her home on December 21, 2022.  Jean was born in New Britain, CT, daughter of the late Adam Brinkley and Sally Zincalet.

Prior to her retirement, Jean was employed with Chapman Manufacturing in Durham.

Jean is survived by a stepson, Peter Spicer, his wife Nancy and their children Nathan & Gracelyn of New Jersey, a sister, Mary Bauer of Rocky Hill, CT, and brother Kenneth of New Haven, CT.  Jean was predeceased by two brothers, Texas Brinkley, Patrick Brinkley and sister Sharon "Corkie" (Bill) Selby.

Jean had many passions, including baking and cooking as well as sewing, embroidering, and quilting.  She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren as well as close friends.  She and Dirck shared over 18 years of marriage and traveled to Newport, RI for many summer vacations.  Over the years the two also enjoyed traveling to visit family in Massachusetts, New Jersey, and Ohio.  Jean often recounted she and Dirck would regularly watch the sunset together at home while side-by-side on the front porch glider at the end of summer days.

Jean was of small stature, but she was tenacious.  She also had a great deal of heart and a good sense of humor.
