Guy Patrick Russo born March 17, 1955 passed away on July 13, 2025 at 70 years old after a two year battle with cancer. Guy was a devoted husband, father, and friend who was passionately dedicated to his family and community. A devout Catholic, Guy was a man of God who believed in the values of inclusivity, kindness, and love, and he is known by many as a mentor, advisor, and confidant. Guy leaves behind his wife (Patricia), his three children and their partners (Gabriel and Allison, Miriah and Michael Kelly and Colby and Lejon Bailey), his five grandchildren (Gianna, Adeline, Stella (Kelly), Stephen, and Dakari (Bailey)), and numerous family members and friends.

Born and raised in Middletown, CT as a second-generation Italian American, Guy was proud of his local roots and Italian American heritage. His parents Albina (Badiali) Russo and Edward Russo [both deceased] raised Guy and his five siblings (Rex, Rosemary (Dennis), Eugene, Edward [deceased], and Regina (Schoffstall) in Middletown alongside their extended family and many friends.

Guy was a devout Catholic and remained so through to his last breath. He attended church most every Sunday and supported many in growing their Christian faiths. As a Justice of the Peace Guy married several couples over the years and was a person that so many have looked to for leadership and hope, especially in times of great joy and deep sadness.

Guy attended Xavier High School where his academic and social savvy flourished. Whether it was starring in the school play as Little Abner, doing the butterfly stroke on the swim team, or fixing cars with the automotive club, in his high school years he cultivated a sensibility about life that was grounded in an ethic of caring for others. This extended through to his time with the Boy Scouts and eventually becoming a respected Boy Scout leader.

Guy was dedicated to education, and he believed in the power of knowledge to positively shape the future. Following high school Guy attended and graduated from the University of Connecticut (1973-1977) with a bachelor's degree in Biochemistry with a minor in English. Later he attended graduate school at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (1982) where he earned a degree in Environmental Engineering. For many years he also served as an adjunct Professor at Gateway Community College teaching water management courses.

In 1978 Guy married the love of his life, Patricia Ann (Lowry), and they have just celebrated their 47rd wedding anniversary on June 23, 2025. True soulmates, Guy and Patricia are a model married couple who stayed committed to each other, through life's trials, through to the very end. Together they grew to a beautiful family of five with their children Gabriel, Miriah (Kelly) and Colby -- and built a beautiful life in Middletown. Over the years Guy enjoyed travelling with his family, cooking Sunday dinners, and showing up to every important life event for anyone in his circle.

Guy cared deeply about the environment and worked in many capacities to support sustainable resource management throughout his career. First in waste management for the Connecticut Resource Recovery Authority and then later growing into a water career at the City of Middletown. Guy served for 22 years as the Director of Water and Sewer in the city until his retirement in 2018.  Guy then served as a Principal Consultant with Prime Engineering until his diagnosis in 2022.

Guy was a hard worker, community volunteer, and a true man of his word. If he wasn't working on one of his many projects around the passive solar house that he designed and built in Middletown, you would probably find him doing projects at someone else's house. He could fix nearly anything, often showing others his methods and techniques in hopes they would learn his ways. His last project and pièce de résistance is the beautiful coastal home in Waterford he renovated and moved into with his family in 2022.

Guy loved golf, music, and the beach, though most of all, he loved spending time with his five grandchildren Gianna, Adeline, Stella (Kelly), Stephen, and Dakari (Bailey). In his free time, he would be spending his days at the beach with the kids, jamming out on the keyboard with his bandmates, or at the course playing a round of golf with his friends. He genuinely loved being outdoors and spending time in nature whether it was running, camping, fishing, boating or hiking.

Sensitive and kind, Guy was the one many turned to for advice and guidance, and his presence on this Earth will be greatly missed. In his final days Guy wished for peace and prosperity for all. In his memory, may we all lead with kindness and conclude with love.

His Funeral Liturgy will be held on Wednesday (July 23rd) at 10:30 a.m. at St. Pius X Church, 310 Westfield St., Middletown.  Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Middletown.
