Gregory Martin Harris died on March 31, 2026. Born in Mamaroneck, N.Y., to Paul and Marbeth (Strumpen-Darrie) Harris in 1951, Greg graduated from Fordham Prep, '69; Yale University, '73; and the University of Connecticut School of Law, '76, where he served on the Law Review. A partner in Dzialo, Pickett, and Allen, P.C., and later, of counsel to the Arch Law Group, LLP, Greg practiced law for nearly 50 years in Connecticut.

During those years of active practice, Greg supported his law school, chairing the UConn Law School Alumni Association, and his community, serving on the Middletown Board of Education, the Russell Library Board of Trustees and the Middletown Board of Ethics. His devotion to his church led him to chair the Board of Directors of the St. Agnes Home, as well as to sing in church choirs, teach CCD, and regularly lector at weekend and holiday Masses.

Greg's belief in service was evident in his years of pro bono assistance to homeowners facing foreclosure, an effort to which he brought enormous creativity and dogged determination.

Underlying all these serious activities were Greg's bottomless font of humor, consisting of a remarkable trove of arcane jokes, and his wildly eclectic newsletters and blog posts. Recipients of his near-daily writings recognized and cherished his fascination with language, mnemonics, history, the Austrian school of economics, politics, and his "four-coin theory."  Precision in language was an article of faith.

Above all else was his love of friends, family and God. In his last weeks of life, Greg offered his prayers and blessings to all he encountered. He leaves bereft his wife, Jane Harris; siblings: Sighle Kujawa, Paula (Armand) Escobio, Roderick Harris, and Ian (Carol) Harris; grandchildren: Garrett Thibedeau, Leigh (Dylan) Gold, and Hailey (Hunter) Tonkin; great-grandchildren: Sofia Gold and Wrenn Gold; and much-loved cousins, nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephew. He was predeceased by his beloved stepdaughter, Liz Garrett Harris.

The Harris family thanks Eucharistic Minister extraordinaire Maureen Chmielecki and his many carers, particularly Dr. S. Jonathan Siegel, Dr. Susan McNamara, the staff at Hartford Healthcare's Inpatient Rehab Center, and his aides, Vivet and Lorenzo.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, April 11 at St. Pius X Roman Catholic Church, 310 Westfield St., Middletown, CT. Interment will be private.
