Gladys "Hap" D.  Scovel, 95, of Chester, formerly of Middletown, beloved wife of Edward S. Scovel, Jr., passed away on Thursday July 27, 2023 at Ingraham Manor in Bristol, CT.

She was born in Omaha, NE, daughter of the late Peter A. and Odella (Reeh) Diestel. Prior to her retirement, Gladys was a nurse working for Middlesex Hospital and later with Olin Ski Corp. She was a communicant of St. Pius X Church and a member of the Mother's Circle. Gladys was a world traveler with her husband and visited six continents.  She even spent time in the former Soviet Union where she taught nursing and occupational therapy skills.

Gladys is survived by her husband, Edward; son, David (Linda) Scovel of Higganum; daughters, Suzanne Morello of Middletown, Nancy (Stephen) LaMonica of Higganum; eight grandchildren, Ed (Jessica), Kristen (Kyle), Josiah, Cody, Sam, Rocco (Aubrey), Stephanie (Luke) and Jenna (Michael); as well as eleven great grandchildren.  She was predeceased by her brothers, Peter and John Diestel.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday August 3rd at 11a.m. at Biega Funeral Home, 3 Silver St. Middletown.  Burial will follow at the State Veterans' Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Wednesday August 2nd from 5 to 7 p.m. at Biega Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Gladys may be made to Bristol Health Home Care and Hospice and/or Bristol Health Ingraham Manor Long Term Care Facility through the Bristol Hospital Foundation P.O.
