Obituary

It is with deep love and sadness that we announce the passing of George F. Sheehan Jr. on Sunday, July 26, 2026, at the age of 68 after a brief illness. George was born in Providence, RI on February 18, 1958 to the late George Sr. and Violette (Gomes) Sheehan. He lived most of his life in Portland, CT with his wife Eileen of 47 years.

George worked alongside his father for 15 years in the family business Modern Window and Carpet Cleaning. He and his Dad became affectionately known as “Big Windows” and “Little Windows” by numerous friends and customers. Upon his Dad’s retirement, George continued the family business for another 32 years.

Throughout the years George forged many long-lasting friendships in which he shared many adventures and treasured memories (like “thirsty Thursdays” with Steve). With family and friends George loved to go camping, boating, water skiing, scuba diving, motorcycling and snowmobiling. He also developed a love for SK Modified racing and NASCAR. George loved machining parts for his friends’ SK Modified race car. Friday nights were spent at Stafford Motor Speedway and camping with friends at the track. Eventually he was presented with an opportunity to be a spotter first for a NASCAR Busch team and eventually a NASCAR Cup team (a dream come true). George’s last big adventure was fulfilling his bucket list trip in 2025. He and his wife spent a month out west with the motorcycle to see Mount Rushmore, Glacier National Park, Grand Titans, Yellowstone, and more.

Besides his wife Eileen, George is survived by his sister Violette “Mickey” Sheehan, niece Tammy (Paul) Sullivan, nephew Neal (Michelle) D’Agata, sister-in-law Lorraine Sheehan, and nephew Michael (Leslie) Sheehan. George was predeceased by his brother Wayne.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to Hospice Home Care nurses and staff, his aides Rashmi and Ama, and our very dear friends, all of whose compassion and kindness brought comfort to George (and much support to Eileen) throughout his illness.
