Obituary

After a long and fulfilling life, Emile Majoric Fournier, Jr. of Middletown was called home and went peacefully on June 19th, 2024. Emile was an extraordinarily kind and loving husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend to many. He will be remembered and missed dearly.

Emile was born in Hartford, Connecticut as one of 15 children to Emile M. Fournier, Sr. and Josephine Fournier, and he lived much of his childhood in East Hartford. He attended St. Thomas Seminary in Bloomfield for 2 years before graduating from East Hartford High School. He then served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He continued his education after his military service and obtained a B.S. in Horticulture from the University of Connecticut. Emile worked with his brothers, Ernest & Albert, running Fournier Nurseries in East Hartford. Later on, he worked for the State of Connecticut's Department of Transportation, using his passion and expertise for horticulture before retiring. He also managed a successful business for Shaklee with his wife, and he served for over a decade as a proud member of the Marlborough Volunteer Fire Department.

Emile married and lived a long, happy, and fulfilling life with his wife, Janice Fournier (née Holland). Together, they had five children, whom they raised in both East Hartford and Marlborough. Emile enjoyed being outside and working with his hands, whether it be with plants or lumber. He was an avid fan of UConn athletics, especially the women's basketball program. He could regularly be found with family and friends at Rentschler Field or in front of his TV supporting the Huskies. Emile always maintained a strong faith in God throughout his life and would often say to others, "God love you!" with an infectious exuberance that couldn't help but make you smile and when asked how he was doing, he always answered "GREAT!". He would also often claim he needed to put his glasses on to hear you better, but even as the years passed and he aged, his unfailing strength was in his love for everyone.

Emile is predeceased by his wife, Janice; eldest son, Emile M. Fournier, III; and several of his siblings. He is survived by his children, Mark Fournier (Kathryn), Kenneth Fournier (Sola), Pamela Gudrian (Michael), AnnMarie Sargent, nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, his brother Richard Fournier (Jean), sister Lorraine Giansanti, sister-in-law Irene Kelliher, and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass for Emile will be held Friday June 28th 10 a.m. at Saint Francis Church 10 Elm St. Middletown, with a burial following at St. Mary Cemetery in East Hartford.
