Obituary

Elizabeth "Betty" (Conroy) Unikewicz, formerly of Middletown, passed away on August 15, 2025 surrounded by her loving family. Daughter of the late Vincent and Helen (Piasecki) Conroy, Betty graduated from Middletown High School, worked for the Goodyear Rubber Company, later was a secretary to Atty Robert Gordon, worked evenings at Miss Beth's School of Dance, and retired from the CT Department of Transportation after 32 years in 2016.

Betty's family was everything to her and the focus of her life. A proud single mother, she raised her daughters to be strong, independent, caring, loving people—a reflection of her shining example.

Betty's energy could light up a room with joy, and she cherished celebrating birthdays, holidays and special events. She especially enjoyed many family trips to Disney World. She loved getting to know new people everywhere she went and delighted in conversations with her many friends, old and new.

She was an avid fan of UConn Huskies Women's basketball. She enjoyed playing bingo, day trips to the Casino, shopping and game shows, especially the Price is Right. Betty was a skilled bowler and treasurer of the DOT bowling league for years. Betty touched countless lives and will be remembered, loved and missed by everyone that knew her.

Betty is survived by her devoted daughters, Amy Unikewicz and her husband Thomas Sladek of Westport, Tracy Allgaier and her husband John of Clinton, brother, Bob Conroy of New Britain, dearest sister-in-law, Doreen Conroy of Higganum, beloved grandchildren, Scarlett Sladek, Eden Sladek, Julia Allgaier and Takoda Allgaier, honorary grandson Roman, and many cherished nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, and by brothers Timothy Conroy, Sr., Edward Conroy and his husband Frank Pantano.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the entire staff at LiveWell in Plantsville, CT who filled her days with love and care. In lieu of flowers please consider donating memorial contributions to Alzheimer's / Dementia care & research at https://livewell.org/
