Elinor "Norie" Wiese, 77, of Haddam CT, died peacefully in her home on Wednesday January 15,  2025 with her loving family by her side after a long and courageous battle with Dementia and Alzheimer's Disease.

Born on July 25, 1947 in Haddam, CT, Norie was the daughter of the late Fredrick B. Gilbert and Mary (Greist) Gilbert.  Norie graduated from Middletown High School in 1965 and then attended nursing school where she earned her LPN and practiced nursing for her entire adult career. Throughout her long career, she was part of the area's most prestigious private practices in numerous specialties within the Middlesex and Hartford Hospital's networks, Wesleyan University and eventually retired from the Middlesex Hospital Family Practice & Residency Program where she continued to pass on her nursing skills.

Norie married the love of her life Howie on February 4, 1967. They were both born and raised in Haddam and that's where they created their lives, family, countless memories and friendships.

As long as Norie lived, she loved spending time with her family and friends.  There was nothing more important to her than family and she treated everyone as such. She had the fondest memories of watching her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews and close friends. Memories of them doing tricks in the yard and the pool or sitting by the pond watching them fish. Watching sporting events, theater shows or concerts always made her smile.  The memories on or near the water will not fade, days on the river soaking up the sun on the boat, on beaches with the sand between her toes or just relaxing by the pool ready to celebrate Christmas in July.  She was happiest when she saw her family enjoying each other in her favorite past times, in the same way she enjoyed them.  Watching all the kids sledding down the hill in the winter, making snowmen, skiing throughout the Northeast, it all brought joy to her life.  The smile on her face and the joy she had could light up any room and her beautiful voice would make everyone just stop and listen.  All those memories she had and made  were never really forgotten and she cherished all of them with everyone and will never fade or dull.

Norie was predeceased by her husband of nearly 50 years Howie in 2017.  Norie leaves behind two sons, Kevin M. Wiese, wife Jeannine (Baehr), their three children, Andrew, Ryan and Lauren of Haddam CT and Jeffrey S. Wiese, wife Heather (Hutchins) and their two sons, Owen and Brendan of Dexter MI.  Norie: she also leaves two brothers, Frederick G. Gilbert and Matthew Gilbert along with many nieces and nephews in the area.  She was predeceased by James "Jake" Gilbert of Maine.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday January 22nd at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter Church in Higganum followed by a graveside service at Burr Cemetery in Higganum.  Friends and family may call at Biega Funeral Home, 3 Silver St., Middletown on Tuesday January 21st from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Haddam Volunteer Fire Department, PO Box 194, Higganum CT 06441 or to Xavier High School, 181 Randolph Road, Middletown CT 06457.
