Obituary

Edward John Dypa, 93, of Middletown, beloved husband of the late Genevieve “Genie” (Warankiewicz) Dypa, died peacefully Wednesday August 19, 2026 at his home surrounded by family.

He was born in Brooklyn, NY, the son of the late Walter and Vera (Gontarz) Dypa. Prior to his retirement, Ed was employed at Pratt and Whitney Aircraft Manufacturing for 40 years as a Quality Assurance Manager.

Ed was a founding parishioner and lifelong communicant of St. Pius X Church, Middletown serving as Trustee for over 40 years, Lector, Eucharistic Minister as well as assisting the Church as needed. He was a Fourth Degree Knight of Forest City Council #3. Ed served on the Westfield Volunteer Fire Department for over 60 years as a firefighter and later as Commissioner. Ed was a founder of Middlesex Community College where a plaque bears his name in Founder’s Hall. Always civic minded, Ed served on the Middletown Senior Commission, brought the TRIAD Program to Middletown and was instrumental in the building of the Middletown Senior Center on Durant Ter., and was a Board Member at the Senior Resources Agency on Aging, Eastern CT. Ed was also a past president of AARP #3310, member of the Civitan Club of Middletown, Polish Falcons Nest #519 and Elks Lodge #771. He was an original Board Member of MARC (currently Insight). Ed was always ready to lend a hand, volunteer and be an advocate for many causes in the community.

Ed was immensely proud of his family, loving, treasuring and embracing every moment with them leaving behind many beautiful memories. He is survived by his children, Christine Newton and her husband Richard, Patricia Jackowski and her husband Charles, Edward Dypa, Jean Newman and her husband Robert, all of Middletown; grandchildren, Zachary Newton and his wife Amy, Matthew Newton and his wife Kelli, Kaitlyn Alicea and her husband Eric and Travis Newman; great-grandchildren, Teddi, Ezakai and Harper. He was predeceased by his granddaughter, Jenna Elizabeth Newman.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Middlesex Hospital Hospice at Home for their care.

His Funeral Liturgy will be held Tuesday (Aug. 25th) at 11 a.m. at St. Pius X Church, 310 Westfield St., Middletown. Burial will be in Miner Cemetery, Middletown. Friends may call at Biega Funeral Home, 3 Silver St., Middletown, on Monday (Aug. 24th) from 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Pius X Church, 310 Westfield St., Middletown, CT 06457.
