Obituary

Donald J. Tyrseck, born on June 17, 1930, in New London, CT, peacefully passed away on June 15, 2023 in Middletown, Connecticut, just shy of his 93rd birthday. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and a lifetime of dedicated service. Don's unwavering commitment to his family, his community, and his passions will forever be cherished.

Don is survived by his beloved wife of 74 years, Marie Tyrseck, and their three children, Donna Everett, Michael Tyrseck, and Mark Tyrseck. He is also survived by his grandchildren who fondly know him as "Grumpy", Ami, Tristina, Jaysen, Michael, Brittany, and Rebecca.

During his professional career, Don worked at the Middletown Press, served in the National Guard and was later activated into the Army. In early retirement, Don and Marie delivered wedding cakes for their daughter Donna at her shop Creative Cakes by Donna. However, it was in his volunteer work that he found true fulfillment. For an incredible 55 years, Don served as a volunteer firefighter in East Haddam, where he touched countless lives and inspired generations to come.

Beyond his service as a firefighter, Don was a master craftsman with a passion for woodworking. From practical projects like building the garage and kitchen cabinets to creating intricate pieces of art like his incredible grandfather clock and rocking chair, his talent and attention to detail were evident in every creation.

Don's love for adventure led him and Marie to embark on memorable journeys in their camper, exploring nearly 50 states where they made lifelong memories together.

In addition to his family and hobbies, Donald was an active member of various organizations and clubs, including the Freemasons, Knights of Columbus, Shriners, Elks, Woodturners Association and Lions Club. These affiliations allowed him to connect with others who shared his values of community, service, and camaraderie.

As we mourn the loss of Donald Tyrseck, we also celebrate the vibrant and meaningful life he lived. His legacy of dedication, craftsmanship, laughter, and love will forever be etched in our hearts. May he find eternal peace, knowing the profound impact he made on the lives of those he touched. His memory will forever bring smiles to our faces and warmth to our hearts.
