Obituary

Donald Charles Rochette, 80, of Middletown, passed away on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at Yale New Haven Hospital, surrounded by loved ones. He was the beloved husband of Patricia (Milardo) Rochette. Don was born in Middletown to Adelard and Esther (Coleman) Rochette, and he dedicated his life to both his family and community.

Before his retirement, Don served as a manager at Bic Pen for many years. He loved his boats and enjoyed sailing with his friends and family. When not on the water, he could be found caring for his koi pond or tending to his extensive train set. Throughout his lifetime, he remained committed to serving his community. From his early years as a swim instructor and lifeguard at the YMCA, and in judo as a fierce competitor and assistant instructor, to his later roles as a volunteer with the Special Olympics and the Lions Club, Don's kindness touched many lives.

Don is survived by his loving wife, Patricia; his sons, Jon and wife Lynn Rochette of Colchester, and Mark and wife Rachel Rochette of Berlin; and his stepchildren, Scott and wife Cherie Spada of Middletown, and Denise Spada of Middletown. He also leaves behind eight grandchildren: Pamela and husband Christopher Luisi, Adam Rochette, Makayla and husband Mark Szilagyi, Katie Rochette, Abbie Rochette, Brianna DeAngelis, Hannah Spada, and Brendan Spada. Additionally, he is survived by his brother, Ronald and wife Sue Rochette of FL, and sisters, Gail Rochette of Deep River, Karen and husband David Greaves of Cromwell, and Sue and husband Tom Healy of East Haddam; and sister-in-law Carolyn Hassell of Middletown; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two daughters, Valerie and Dawn; and siblings James Rochette Sr., Marion Young, Gloria Fitch, and Burton Rochette.
