Obituary

Deborah A. (Mateyov) Hager, 75, of Higganum, wife of the late Wallace J. Hager, passed away peacefully Monday September 15, 2025 at Waters Edge Health Care.

She was born in Middletown, daughter of the late William and Stephanie (Stolorik) Mateyov.

A lifelong lover of the arts, Deb found joy in photography, and the quiet moments of inspiration that only nature and travel could bring. Her heart was always drawn west — to the vast open landscapes and soaring mountains.

For over 40 years, Deb was the proud owner of The Country Framer in Higganum, where her eye for detail and passion for artistic expression helped countless customers preserve their own treasured works. Her shop was more than a business — it was a community space, a creative haven, and a reflection of her own generous spirit.

Deb touched the lives of many through her warmth, her artistic spirit, and her deep love for the world around her. She is deeply missed by her family, friends, and all those who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Deborah is survived by her three brothers, Stephen Mateyov and his wife Sharon and their two sons Stephen Jr. and Ryan of Killingworth, Brian Mateyov and his wife Linda and son Kyle of Taylors, SC; William Mateyov of Middletown.

Funeral services are private and burial will be at the convenience of her family.  There are no calling hours. To share memories or express condolences online please visit www.biegafuneralhome.com.
